Welcome to Art at Flatirons Elementary  - Check out Sharyl Hazzard's Art Website!
In art, we explore various techniques, processes, and media including drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and technology. We learn through actively engaging in interactive arts lessons focused on creative problem solving and cross-curricular connections. All lessons meet the Colorado Common Core Mastery Standards provided by the state.
    About Mrs. Hazzard:
Hello! I am very excited to be a part of the Flatirons Elementary School community!  I have taught art for seven years, five of which in Poudre School District, and this will be my third year in Boulder Valley School District. I studied at Colorado State University where I earned my teaching license and my BFA with a double concentration in Drawing and Graphic Design and a minor in Art History. I earned my Masters of Education from Lesley University in Curriculum and Instruction: Teaching Creatively Through the Arts. I am a practicing artist and avid painter. I am very much looking forward to helping to cultivate the artist in your child. Please feel free to contact me at or at 720.561.4623.
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” ~Pablo Picasso

     Art/Music/PE Schedule

     Activities and Clubs

    Art Shows:
Each grade level will have their artwork on display during each of the different grade level musical performances. This year we will call it Music and an Art Walk! In addition to the grade level shows, there will be a Boulder Valley School District Art Show, a Board Room Art Show, and a Flatirons Art Night. Please keep checking the website for more information in regards to these shows.
    Art Portfolios:
Art Portfolios are sent home once a year during the month of May. After projects have been on display, I collect the work and store it inside a portfolio each child has personalized at the beginning of the year. Hopefully, you can sit down with your child and look at all their art they have created over the semester and share in meaningful dialogue together.
    Art Attire:
Although we try very hard to keep clean in the art room, our creativity sometimes get the best of us and we end up with a mess. Please dress for art in darker, more casual clothes and please remember that most everything we use is washable and non-toxic so with a little elbow grease and some pre-treatment laundering should go smoothly.
Flatirons Elementary will participate in KidzArt again this year! This is a wonderful fundraising opportunity that supports the arts at Flatirons. KidzArt is a company that reproduces your child’s artwork on professionally made products like magnets, mugs and mousepads. This will be our first major project in art.
