Welcome to our vibrant Flatirons Elementary Music program, where every student's voice and creativity find a stage! We believe music is an essential part of a well-rounded education, fostering joy, creativity, and collaboration. Students don't just learn about music; they make music. We provide a wealth of performance opportunities designed to build confidence and celebrate their achievements. From exciting, whole-school musical performances that bring our community together, to the individual spotlight of our annual Talent Show, every student has a chance to shine. For our dedicated 4th and 5th graders, there's the prestigious opportunity to audition for the BVSD All-District Choir, a fantastic chance to perform with top young musicians from across the district.

In addition to learning and singing a variety of songs (including our school song, "Soar Falcons Soar"), our students get truly hands-on experience exploring a wide world of instruments. Our curriculum is designed to engage students kinesthetically as they learn to read and create music. Students regularly play a diverse collection of instruments, including melodic percussion like xylophones and metallophones, a variety of drums and percussion, keyboards, ukuleles, and much more. This diverse instrumentation allows children to develop a foundational understanding of rhythm, melody, harmony, and ensemble playing, helping them find their strengths and expand their musical interests. Expanding the Horizon: Field Trips and Assemblies

Our commitment to music extends beyond the classroom walls through engaging assemblies and field trips that expose students to the finest musicians in our region. Our older students enjoy an annual field trip to experience the magic of a live orchestral performance at the Boulder Philharmonic Discovery Concert, held at CU's magnificent Macky Auditorium.

At Flatirons, we also bring top-tier talent directly to our students! Recent assemblies have featured dynamic and inspiring performances from groups like the Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets professional drumlines, local professional orchestras, and the exceptional young voices of the Colorado Children's Chorale. These experiences provide rich, authentic context for the skills our students are learning, helping them see music as a lifelong pursuit. At Flatirons, music is for everyone!
