Literacy Intervention

At Flatirons, we are dedicated to providing all students with rich universal literacy instruction and intervention in the classroom. As a whole school, we strive for all students to achieve typical growth and beyond. Students who need additional support may be referred to, our interventionists, who provide targeted small group instruction. Classroom Teachers and Literacy Interventionists collaborate to review assessment data and student needs. Literacy intervention is designed to complement the classroom learning experience.

Within these small instructional groups led by our trained Literacy Interventionists, students work with one of our trained Literacy Interventionists in small instructional groups where they receive instruction targeted to their goals. Literacy intervention groups utilize BVSD approved interventions, such as the Orton Gillingham (OG) instructional approach from the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education (IMSE). These approaches teach literacy in direct, explicit, structured, sequential, and multisensory ways, which has consistently proven to be effective in supporting struggling readers.
Our Literacy Interventionists are not only dedicated to their professional growth but also committed to delivering research-based instruction, as detailed in the BVSD Literacy webpage
