We are excited to have you join our community at Flatirons Elementary! We recognize that starting school can be an overwhelming experience, so we hope that this page will connect you with useful tools and resources to help you get started. For everyone, the journey begins with enrollment so please scroll through to view more information about registration, orientation, welcome days, transportation and more.

KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT

Students are eligible to attend kindergarten if they turn 5 years of age on or before October 1st of the year of enrollment.

How to Find Your Neighborhood School

What You Need Before You Apply

Neighborhood Enrollment

Every address in the Boulder Valley School District has an assigned neighborhood school. To attend a school other than your neighborhood school, you must apply and be approved through the Open Enrollment lottery (see Open Enrollment).

Applications must be submitted online. Parents/guardians who do not have online access are encouraged to use the computers available at the Education Center.

Families may choose to enroll their student(s) in a school outside of their neighborhood as long as there is sufficient programming, staff, and space at the school. Families residing outside the BVSD boundaries are welcome to open enroll their student(s) in this district. Open Enrollment begins in November for the next school year (beginning the following August).

If you choose to attend a school outside of your neighborhood/school of residency and before completing the Open Enrollment process, parents/guardians should obtain information about the school to which they are applying so that they are informed about the program. Some schools/grade levels may have no open spaces to offer.

Selection is based on a lottery process, not first-come-first-served. Because Open Enrollment is not guaranteed, district residents who choose Open Enrollment may simultaneously pursue neighborhood school enrollment as a backup.

Kindergarten Open House

Thursday, February 29, 2024, 6:00-7:30 p.m.

During this in-person event, caregivers will have the opportunity to meet our wonderful kindergarten teacher, PTO co-chair, principal, and registrar. You'll also have time to ask questions and connect with other incoming families. Kids are encouraged to attend as we will have rotations of art, music and innovation lab! Please RSVP here.

New Students Summer Popsicle Social

Sunday, June 9, at 4:00-5:30 p.m.

Our Creating Community and New Family Committees host two Popsicle Social events each summer for new students to come together over popsicles and play. All Flatirons Families are welcome to join the fun! This is a great opportunity for students to make some new friends before the first day of school.

Kindergarten Welcome Days

August 16, 17 & 18, 2023

Kindergarten Welcome Days are our way of providing incoming kindergarteners with a few days to help ease the transition into kindergarten and promote a successful school experience, both academically and emotionally.

All kindergarteners will attend school for a half-day the first three days of school. There will be two groups: morning and afternoon. There will be no Specials (art, PE, music) or lunch on those dates.

Emails confirming which group your student will be assigned will be sent out in early August.

What is Infinite Campus (IC)?

Infinite Campus is an online way to access student academic information. Using this tool, you will be able to:

Access important academic information about your student(s), including grades.
Register current BVSD students for the new school year through the Annual Data Update process.
Enroll new students in BVSD through the Online Registration system.
Apply for the free and reduced price lunch program (Meal Benefits Application), if needed.
Report your student(s) absence.

How to Create an IC Parent Portal Account

If you have not yet created an Infinite Campus Portal Account, follow the directions below:

Locate your Infinite Campus Activation Key number

Activation Key should be in your email.
BVSD automatically sends the activation key to a family's primary email after a student is registered in the district.
The subject line will be “Message from BVSD - your access to Infinite Campus Parent Portal.”
The sender email address should be ic.messenger@bvsd.org.

Enter Infinite Campus Portal Activation Key

Click on the Campus Portal Activation Key link on the IC login page.
Enter the Activation Key number in the provided fields.
Follow the remainder of the prompts from Infinite Campus.

Visit HelpAtSchools.com.
Select your school district (BVSD) from the "Go to your School District" drop-down menu.
Select your school (Flatirons Elementary) from the "Please select your school" drop-down menu.
Select the "Login or Create Account" option.
Follow prompts for creating a new account. You will need to use the same email that you used for Infinite Campus. If you are not sure what that is, contact our school registrar, Michelle Sumaray, in the Flatirons office.
Check your email for a message from HelpAtSchools to complete your registration.

How to Use the Online Directory

Obtain an account at HelpAtSchool.com as described above.

Select "Directory" from the menu bar. If you're on a phone, select the 3-bar icon in the upper right corner to view the menu.
Typing in the search field will auto-complete student, parent/guardian, or teacher names. If you're on a phone, try holding your phone in landscape position to view all the table columns. You can sort by selecting a column heading. You can filter for a grade or teacher using the select menus at the top of the columns.
Selecting the name of a parent/guardian will add them to your phone's address book. The contacts entry will also include a note with the name(s) and grade(s) of your student(s) who attend Flatirons.

Please note: To be in the Directory you must “Opt-in.” You will receive an email with the details and will manage your own preferences.

TRANSPORTATION

Bus Registration

Bus Registration (General Info)

Parents/guardians of general education students, who are eligible for school bus service, must register for bus service through Infinite Campus.

Registration opens 5/1/2022 and closes 7/1/2022 at 5:00 p.m.

Students who are registered for bus service after July 1st will be put on a waitlist.

Bus stop locations and times for registered riders, who are assigned to a bus route, are posted on Infinite Campus in early August. Look for the BVSD Bus Stop and Schedule tab, which is found by clicking on "More" in the left-hand column of the home page.

Bus Registration Instructions

Log in to the Infinite Campus parent account. If you don’t have an account, directions on how to set one up can be found here.
- Once logged in, select the “More” button on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Next, select the “Transportation Options” link on the right side of the screen, located under the heading “Quick Links.”
You will see a list of all of your BVSD students. Click on your student(s) and answer the questions.
Bus stop locations and times will be posted in IC in early August under the BVSD Bus Stops Schedule tab. This tab will be blank for students who have not registered.
Please do not send your child to the bus stop if they have not been assigned to a route.

What is the Space Available Program?

Space Available applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applying for a seat on the bus via the Space Available program does not guarantee a seat on the bus.

A new application must be submitted EVERY SCHOOL YEAR for EACH STUDENT desiring transportation on a space-available basis. NO new stops or other transportation services will be implemented to accommodate students applying for space-available transportation.

The Space Available application opens on Infinite Campus on July 1st.

BVSD Bus Pass

Once a student is issued a BVSD Bus Pass, they must have it to board the bus. Every time a student enters or exits the bus, they must swipe their pass.

To receive a BVSD Bus Pass, parents/guardians must first register their student in Infinite Campus to ride the bus. Once the student is assigned to a route, their bus driver will give them their pass. Check with your bus driver or call Transportation at (720) 561-5120 if you need a replacement pass.

This is an important safety tool that provides schools and families with information about where and when students boarded and exited the bus. Parents/guardians can track their students' scans by downloading the Z Pass+ app.
